During the ADL Course 5318: Instructional Design Learning, we are to create a learning management system for a course that relates to our innovation plan. I decided to create a course for teachers on the implementation of ePortfolios for themselves with the end goal of using the digital tool in emergent bilingual classrooms.
The benefits and purpose of ePortfolios in an EB classroom is to allow students to express themselves and learn in an authentic way their second language while maintaining their confidence, culture and native language. This course is a year long designed to take 12 hours in total of the participants time. At the end, participants will have an ePortfolio, an artifact with their accomplishments, and students will have a portfolio to track their academic journey.
As part of the ADL course, we need to run a Usability Test Report, where volunteers try the course and provide feedback of their experience. For this course I asked, a fellow ADL alumni whom I have worked with throughout the program. Her feedback was all positive with a recommendation of implementing a checklist for teachers. This is beneficial for my course because of its self-paced- asynchronous format. Teachers have to complete six modules during the school year. The checklist system will allow teachers to stay on top of their work and not forget assignments. I am going to implement this system in the innovation plan's weekly flyers that will be distributed to teachers.
My second tester is a retired bilingual teacher of 15+ years that served EB Pre-K/K classrooms. She is exceptional and an amazing at promoting academic growth. She is an ideal candidate for this program because of her experience and her belief of not being tech savvy. During her run, I was beside her to help her and to take notes. I do want to note that the original video was an hour long, double of the recommended time; however, she went through the whole course. Instead of continuously writing a response and summary, watch the attached video for her comments and my reflections. The next post will encompass a breakdown on cohort creation and the variations implementations towards the plan.
Thank you to my two testers for their time and feedback. Thank you for giving me permission to post and share your crucial feedback.
