It is December 31, 1999, you are in your living room with discarded juices and a TV playing in the background. You think, 'I should be toasting to a new year or watching the ball drop at Time Square'. However, you are staring at your computer, microwave, and landline; challenging it to move, say something!
With the change of the millennium and a slight oversight on a computer program, the world went into disarray of a possible technological innvasion. The phenomenon known as Y2K. Technology has brought fear to the life of those who wield it; like any unknown concept, the possible threat is concerning. Twenty-four years later, the sentiment towards a technological takeover rings true in some human.
Artificial Intelligence has created an resurgence of fear amongst some; while others are embracing its utility. Since the emergence of Chatbox and Siri, the development of AI has grown exponentially in a short period of time. The question I pose to you is "how do we master this new tool?"
As a teacher in the classroom, we can find several negative aspects of AI in school. The goal here is to use this technology to advance education.
Let's start a journey. All aboard the AI Misinformation Train!
Modeling Partner Work: Bilingual pairs and partner work is essential to your lesson planning. If you are like me, you had to pretend to be partner A and partner B when modeling an activity. You no longer have to be a one man show! I use ChatGPT as my partner. It is perfect to help younger kids see that two intelligences are cooperating together in an assignment.
Rubrics: With websites like Magic AI creating rubrics is a breeze.
Images: I used Gemini to help my students visualize. The text mentions an Interplanetary Zoo and creatures from Kaan. My students were distracted by the logistics of these two concepts. Thankfully, Gemini helped create images that helped my readers visualize unexplored territory. I did use the images after many strategies for visualization; it offered a great comparison from their imagination and technology.
