How Girls Achieve
By Sally A. Nuamah
I selected this book because I believe that the education system, internationally, does not consider girls enough in their curriculum, activities, and development. I have had the privilege to study in Puerto Rico, Illinois, and Texas; I also have sponsor education for children in Honduras. I hear my students stories and those of their parents. To create a more encompassing educational system, I have to learn the different perspectives and avenues. I have to challenge, change, and support my beliefs through research.
Dual Language Development & Disorders
By Paradis, Genesee, Cargo, & Leonard
Before starting the ADL program, I went back to school to be a bilingual diagnostician; I had to pause that journey because I need a mentor and my district couldn't provide me one. However, right before that journey I had bought that book. In my career, emergent bilinguals receive support as if monolinguals. I am curious on how to best serve my students even when my organizations cannot find the resources needed.
Why Nothing Works: Who Killed Progress- and How to Bring it Back
By Marc J. Dunkelman
I was listening to a podcast that referenced this book. They discussed the importance of progress and how it is measured. In an era, where unbalanced standardized testing data drives the idea of progress, it is essential to stay updated on the progression of progress mentality.

Teaching for Biliteracy
By Beeman & Urow
When I left my frist district, I saw the language specialist reading this book and purchased it for myself to read during the summer. Six years later my current district started reading it and implementing its lessons. This book is excellent if you want to learn about translanguaging principles and activities. I still design my lesson plans with this model and add my own adjustments.
